Bye Dad - From Richard

From Dads Church service . . .

Lovely to see so many familiar faces in the Church, some of you will remember John Corser when he was working in the Fire Brigade or the Steelworks.
But as I am the youngest out of the five kids these where before my time, so today I am just going to share a few memories about my Dad

Last week I updated my profile picture on Facebook and got loads of lovely comments back and most of all that Dad was such a lovely gentleman.

One of my earliest memories with Dad was when he started taking me to Pools from when I was about 8, although I cannot remember my very first game I can remember Pools been 3-1 up at 81 minutes to go and by 89 mins 4-3 down, with Dad saying 'we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory'. But due to work and family commitments Dad stopped taking me by the time I was 13 but I always got the 50p entrance on Saturday mornings even though that was sometimes spent at Binn’s Café and I had to nick into the ground to watch the game. After the game Dad would ask ’are Pools still in the bottom 3’. I didn’t have the heart to tell him this season they didn’t make it out of the bottom two.

In my late teens and after as Dad didn’t do much DIY and I became the number one go to when things needed fixing or what to buy but Dad was always the willing assistance and asking if he could help but I ended mostly asking for another cuppa.

Over the last few years jobs did take a bit longer as Dad would tidy up tools and bits I was still using.

When I did the last bit of decking for them I had to retrieve my screw gun from behind the wheelie bins, an old pile of wood and a plant pot, but he had helped and was the best tea/coffee maker going.

We only did our allotment for 4 years as Dads dementia progressed but he loved nothing more than spending Sunday mornings up there and best bit of all was sitting doing nothing having a cuppa and chatting about work, the past, the family and all other things that at the time didn’t seem overall important.

These are just a few memories that came to me over the last few months when sat with Dad.

I hope today I have made some of you smile and some of you laugh, and some to cry and that’s okay as today is the day to say goodbye.

Bye Dad
